THURSDAY, OCTOBER
2
We got up
and left at 6:30 and shortly thereafter left the Ohio River and entered the
Cumberland River. The Cumberland was
narrower than the others we have been on and lined with trees on both
sides. It was pretty with a bit more
color and very curvy, continually winding around.
We were heading for Barkley Lock & Dam which will raise us up 57’. This will be the biggest lock yet.
A few of the boats left earlier so there were not as many of us to go through this time. Glad to report this lock through was uneventful.
We are now in Kentucky Lake – yippee! We can relax a little more now. No more getting up at 6AM and go, go, go all day. We heard that sentiment echoed by fellow Loopers throughout the day. That and “thank God we are off the Mississippi”! We were able to change our reservations and checked into Green Turtle Bay Marina with the other boaters. The marina hosted a free BBQ for all Loopers. It was very windy day and it was starting to cool down. We are ready for a break in the heat actually but the wind could lay down a bit. Since we booked so late, we got put on a dock that was really far away from everything and a long walk to the ship store and facilities. We actually took the dingy to the party. We made an early night of it and were back on the boat by 8:00. I think everyone is just tired. We will move to a different marina tomorrow and our friends from TN, Becky and Jimmy are coming to visit!
LOCATION UPDATE:
And here is a map of the Kentucky and Barclay Lakes area, otherwise known as the land between the lakes. Looks like we have lots of exploring ahead of us!
